Alice Louise Wilson

Written by Mark Mueller. One in a collection by Allen Bachoroski, Local Historical Writer and author of “Tales Along the Highway of Legends”

Alice Louise Wilson worked in the Research Department at Fort Logan Mental Health Center in Denver, where she attained the position of junior staff assistant in charge of the Journal of the Fort Logan Medical Center.  She found her greatest “career” satisfaction as editor of the Center’s quarterly medical journal.  This was at a time when the Center was hailed nationally as a model of new treatment approaches for the mentally ill.

Alice authored Family Care and Post-Discharge Community Adjustment, based on a group research project by the University of Denver School of Social Work.  She was also technical editor of the final report on a prisoner work release study project for the U. S. Department of Labor and Manpower Division.

Alice’s high school journalism sparked her editorial career.  It was a reporter on the school newspaper that took first place in a national contest at Columbia University; first place tie in the inter-mountain high school journalism contest in Utah; and first place in its division in the state competition at the University of Colorado.

During the war, Alice worked as a civilian for the Air Defense Command in Oregon.  She married Gregory A. Mueller on February 19, 1948 in Denver.  He is a lawyer, who after returning from the war, where he earned the Bronze Star, went into practice with his brother John.  Their most noted case was defending ‘Peanuts’ Mondragon, who killed a police officer.  They saved him from the gas chamber.  Greg next worked in the Denver D.A.’s office.  There he helped prosecute John Gilbert Graham, one of the most notorious murder’s in Colorado history.  He was appointed to the Denver bench in 1970, now a practicing lawyer for over fifty years.

Alice died May 10, 1983 in Denver, but up to that time had been a member of the Friends of Historical Trinidad.

Trinidad was an important beginning for both Ruth and Alice.

Alice had two children: Mark Gregory Mueller was born on May 29, 1943 in Denver, Colorado.  Matthew Jerome Mueller was born on January 10, 1956 in Denver, Colorado.
