Closes Walsenburg Site

Dr. Frank Armijo, President of Trinidad State Junior College (TSJC), said in a statement today, "It is with a heavy heart that I had to reach the decision to close the TSJC site in Walsenburg." Due to statewide budget problems, TSJC has to cut over one and a half million dollars to its budget. " It's unfortunate this budget crisis came at this time, because the new management at the Huerfano County Education Center (HCEC) had made great strides in making HCEC a viable campus for us."

Armijo pointed out that TSJC has a campus in Alamosa and one in Trinidad that the Walsenburg students are invited to attend. TSJC will even give priority to the Walsenburg students when it comes to residence hall scholarships. If a student receives a residence hall scholarship, he or she can live in one of the dorms on campus and only have to pay for the meal plan at the cafeteria. Students interested in applying for the residence hall scholarships should contact the TSJC Financial Aid Office at 719-846-5553.

He went on to say, "For those students who don't want to leave home, CCCOnline is available." Through CCCOnline, students can earn fully accredited Associate of Arts Degrees, Associate of Applied Science Degrees and Certificates, in various disciplines. Students still register through TSJC and once registered, they take all their courses online in the comfort of their own home. CCCOnline and all the Colorado Community Colleges are accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
