Joe Slanovich passed away at Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton, Colorado on September 26 after a lengthy illness. Joe was born in Segundo, Colorado on March 18, 1919 to Frank and Mary Slanovich. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Frank, and Rudy and sister Ann Selak.

Joe worked in the family lumber business until 1947. In that year, he began employment at the Allen Mine in Weston, Colorado. He worked as a miner for the Colorado Fuel and Iron (CF&I) Corporation and later served as a foreman until his retirement in 1981. In 1985, he and his wife Josephine moved to Littleton, Colorado. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers Association (UMWA), Mount Carmel Church and St. Mary's Church in Littleton, Colorado.

Joe enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and prospector. His prospecting hobby took him to various mining sites throughout Colorado. He continued his interest in gold mining until ill health prevented him from enjoying his hobby.

Joe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Josephine, daughters Grace and Joanne of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; sister Mary (Bill) Hickerson, Sacramento, California; brothers and sisters-in-law Rose (Albert, deceased) Vecellio, Frank (Eileen, deceased) Rino, Judy (Joe, deceased) Rino, Barbara (Lou, deceased) Rino, Ann (Ron, deceased) Risley, John and Georgia Rino; nieces Agnes (Bob) Hake, John Selak, Mary Ann Selak, Bill Hickerson, Mary Ann Nigro, Kathryn (Richard) Steuber, John G. Rino, Anthony Rino, Albert (Butch)Vecellio, Carol Thomas, Rick Vecellio, Louis Rino, Dean Rino, Tom Risley, Karen Risley, Michael Rino, Dennis Rino, Jim Rino, and Joseph Rino; and his prospecting "buddy" Dave Carpenter, Oregon.

Active pallbearers are Albert Vecellio, John G. Rino, Bill Hickerson, Fred Tavella, Louis Rino and Tom Risley.

Visitation at Mullare Murphy Funeral Home on Sunday, October 1 from 2pm €“ 6pm. Mass of the Resurrection from Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Monday, October 2 at 10am. Entombment at the Catholic Cemetery.
