CHARLES R. LOPEZ SR., 87, of Santa Fe died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, after a short illness.
Charles was born in Morley, Colo., to Fred and Cleofas Lopez. He graduated from Trinidad Colorado High School in 1937. He was a Santa Fe businessman. He and his family operated Maria's Mexican Kitchen for 20 years and also operated the Home Bakery on Agua Fria. He was an active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. He had a wonderful sense of humor, love of music, passion for baseball and love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary B. Lopez; daughter, Donna B. Duran; and parents.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Lopez; children, Don Lopez and wife Dolores, Manuel Lopez, Nancy Portillo and husband Arturo, Mary Lopez and companion Jackie Miller, Charles R. Lopez, Jr. and wife Phyllis, Paul Romero, Vivian Romero, Bob Romero, Phillip Romero, Carmela Gurule and husband Art, Joe Pat Romero and wife Melanie; brother, Gilbert Lopez and wife Viola; sisters, Lucy, Margaret and Esther, all of Denver; 23 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Rosario Cemetery.
