Gloria, do you know if Nola Butte or Trinchera are associated with the area that is known presently as Allendale?
I immediately thought that this was a picture of Fisher's Peak, as viewed from what is now the Allendale addition. My aunt and uncle (Virginia & Frank Zehna) lived in Allendale, and this view of The Peak is one that I remember seeing from their back yard.
The persons and the building in the photo are interesting aspects of the photo. I wonder "who?" and "what?"

Allendale is pretty much south and just barely east of Trinidad. Engleville and Allendale are separated by about 3-4 rolling "hills" with Allendale being almost a mile more south from Engleville. From South Oak St. to Engleville old city limit as I know it is exactly 3 miles ESE. From that same spot on Oak it is (as the crow flies) about 1 mile SES. Hope that all make some sense.

Yes, Dodie, Trinchera is about 45 miles down the Gray Creek road. A long way from town. I really do like the picture. It is something that we all remember seeing Fisher's Peak are whole lives and then to try to pin point a picture is almost impossible. threelazyl

Thanks again Pete and 3L. I sure hope Sean will do a post after his return from the property area that his great grandfather owned.

A very reliable source has told me that this is the Riffenburg Mine. I have recently seen the same photo and it seems like it is in the Aultman Photo Collection. I will get more information concerning Riffenburg late on in the week.

Just came back from Colorado and wish I'd have had the time to "go south" had some business in Glenwood Springs to tend too. We are looking forward to a longer trip when the weather breaks. We have enjoyed all the posts and look forward to sharing more info. If this is the Riffenburg Mine is it still around and what year could this have been? Thanks Sean.....Nashville

I recently seen the same photo and apparently it is from the Aultman Collection. The person who showed me the photo, and who is a very reliable source, has stated that this is the Riffenburg Mine. I don't have any information on the Riffenburg name now, but I will do a little more research for more information on it.
