The Isis was closed in the early 60's I believe and the Strand burned to the ground in what was called a "mysterious" fire in the late 60's or early 70's. The Drive Inn continued to operate until the 80's when it just went out of fashion everywhere in the country. The structure and lot still stand to this day. The lot is owned by the city now, I think. Good memories. I always liked the Drive Inn here as kids we spent a lot of summer nights out there with all our home-made popcorn and goodies. The Strand was a small theatre but always had the latest shows of the times and for some reason the soda tasted better there than at the Fox which still shows nightly!

I went to the Strand every Saturday. I also went to the ISIS theatre.
At the time I was going to the ISIS nobody under 16 years old could get in. There was a polio epidemic going on then. I was friends with the family & they let me in but I had to watch the movies from the lobby area. I was only 15 at that time. Sure was glad we didn't get caught.

What about the Saturday afternoon "kiddie day" where you had to save your ticket stub for the drawing between movies, and they would give prizes. Some of them were pretty good ones.[:o)]

    I remember those days too.:)
Lots of good memories back then[:I]
Do you remember when Ken Curtis came to the Fox Theatre? He had some of the kids upon the stage having a horse race. He asked them the names of some of the cowboys horses. My brother won 1st place & it was a replica of Ken Curtis's gun. That gun would allow my brother into any film location where Ken Curtis was filming a picture.

Just happen to have a postcard showing the Strand.

The movies that were playing that day were
"Tembo" in color and "Sunset Pass".

    Regards,

If you happen to have the 2006 First National Bank in Trinidad calendar, the Strand's history is detailed on the August page. It says the Strand closed in 1972 and was destroyed by an explosion and fire on June 5, 1977.
