Josephine Rose Archuleta was born January 29, 1915, first child of Pete and Emma Archuleta. She was raised in Sopris, Colorado, graduating from Sopris High School, then attending nursing school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She returned and worked as a registered nurse at the Trinidad hospital and later moved to California, where she spent the remainder of her career in nursing: first as surgical nurse at Memorial and St. Mary's Hospitals in Long Beach and then as Director of Nursing at a private facility. An accomplished bowler, she added trophies to her collection in her spare time. After retiring, Rose returned to Trinidad, fufilling her wish to rejoin her brothers and sisters in the mountain region she loved. She was happy to hike and fish, visit friends and family, read and crochet, attend services at Holy Trinity, and enjoy an occasional Chicken Fried Steak at Bob & Earl's. As her physical challenges increased, Rose was especially pleased by frequent visits from her devoted nephew John Medina and her close and loving friendship with Gloria Armijo. She leaves behind a host of friends as well as loving family members: sister Irene McAllister, son James Anthony, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rose will be missed and remembered by all.
Services for Rose will be held on Friday, July 28th, 2006 at 10am at Comi Funeral Home.
