Wood Trujillo Lucero Ortiz Cisneros Wilson

Any Help Appreciated on the following family lines: Wood Trujillo Lucero, Ortiz, Cisneros, Wilson, Ortega, Gonzales, Martin.

I am researching my father's mother's family line. My grandfather, Jerry Wood, lived in a 3 room adobe house--no running water, electricity or indoor toilet--with a sod roof in what is now Pinon Canyon Maneuver Area. I remember going there as a small child.

Jerry Wood used to drive a buckboard with mules do a spring to get his water. He raised quarter horses and ranched for Kitch.

In February, 2005, I got permission to go in to Pinon Canyon, took my father Ed and my uncle Bob Noble back to Jerry's adobe house and video-taped it. It's a very good thing that an act of congress has designated Jerry's adobe and all of the old homesteads as historical landmarks and protects them. The adobe still stands.

Jerry's wife, my grand mother, Alta Grace Trujillo, lived in Fowler. Many of my family still live in Fowler, Boone, Manzanola, and La Junta. I grew up in La Junta.

Alta Grace Trujillo's parents were, Jose Maximo Trujillo and Juana Lucero. I believe Juana's full name was Juana Maria Bartola Lucero--but am not certain.

My great grandmother, Cornelia Ortiz was illigitimate. Three names complicate finding her ancestry: Ortiz, Cisneros, and Wilson.

I am trying to trace the (Spanish/Mexican)family lines Trujillo, Lucero, Ortiz, Cisneros.

My grandmother, Maria Guadalupe Trujillo, born in Trinidad, December 4, 1887, is the youngest child of Maximo Trujillo born in Mora, New Mexico, June 12, 1838 and Juana Maria Lucero, born in Mora New Mexico, March 10, 1843. They were married at St Gertrude's Catholic Church, in Mora, June 15, 1860.

Your Great grandfather Jose Theodoro Trujillo, my grandmother's brother, was born in Colorado in 1880, and married Cornelia Ortiz. Their daughter Alta Gracia married Jerry Wood. I visited your grandparents in Fowler with my mother Julia Medina in the early 60's. I was introduced to several of their children, but do not remember them now.

Maximo's father is Jose Dolores Trujillo and his mother is Maria Trinidad Lavidia. The name Lavidia is the hispanicized version of the French name Labadie or L'Abadie as was ofter done by the priests. In a book "orgins of New Mexico Families" in the Spanish Colonial period by Fray Angelico Chavez covering records from 1598-1693 and 1693-1821 I found the name labadie which I believe is the same. Maria Trinidad Labadie is listed as a daughter of Domingo Labadia, a native of France married Micaela Padilla in Santa Fe in 1766. The record found also states Dominique L'Abadie was born in France in 1738. His name was hispanicized to Domingo Labadie or labadia. Family history by word of mouth was that my grandmother was of French ancestry.

Juana Maria Lucero, according to my research, parents were Jose Trinidad Lucero, born in and Maria Louisa Ortelano.

I plan to retire in 2007 and spend more time doing my family genealogy. Please keep in touch with me, or anyone else out there that has contributing information.

Responding to Gloria Cordova's note, Jose Estepula Trujillo is my grandmother, Maria Guadalupe Trujillo's brother. I found 17 children born of Maximo Trujillo and Juana Maria Lucero. I personally knew Tio Tito, Tio Camelo, Tio Theodoro and Tia Delisia.

I have a copy of my grandparents Holy Sacrament of Matrimony that Juan Ferdinando Medina and Maria Guadalupe Trujillo were lawfully united in the holy bonds of matrimony on September 4, 1912 according to the rite of the Roman Catholic Church and in the conformity with the laws of the state of Colorado and the church of Holy Trinity, Trinidad. The Rev A J Lebeau, SJ officiating in the presence of Higino Cordova and Herminia Cordova.

I note this because of the Cordova connection. Felix Cordova married my grandmother's sister Maria Isabel Trujillo and Higino and Herminia were their only two children. Herminia never married or had children, but she raised the only child of Higino, Della Cordova Torres because his wife died when Della was born. Della still lives in Trinidad in the original family home on East Main Street.

RE: CORDOVA - TRUJILLO connections ... Della Cordova Torres et al

    Small world!
Yes, I know Della Cordova Torres personally and have often visited her in her home on E.Main St. Her husband, Max, and my father (Barron Cordova) were good friends. Her second son, Tony Torres, married my dad's brother's daughter, Linda Cordova. They are since divorced but they have a son together, Matthew Torres. Della's youngest son, George, and his wife, June, are good friends of our family also, as are her oldest son "Boris" and his wife.

This CORDOVA connection goes way, way back....
Antonio de Cordoba (abt 1650-bef 1710) + Maria Eugenia DeHerrera
    ..Lazaro Antonio (b.abt 1690) + (1st m) Ana Valdez
    ....Juan Pablo/Pedro (abt 1710-bef 1782) + Maria Juliana Montoya
......Antonio Celedon (abt 1760-1766) + Juliana Martin
........Jose Rafael (1798-1915) + Maria Guadalupe Trujillo
..........Jose Higno (b.abt 1831) + Maria de la Luz Garcia de Noriega
............Jose Felix (1863-1952) + Maria Isabel Trujillo (1866-1922)
    ..............Higno (1996-1959) + Adela Ann Abeyta (d.1918)
................Adela Ann "Della" (b.1918) + Maximiano Emilio Torres (b.1912)

My dad (Barron Cordova) and mom (Cora Carmona Cordova) loved the Torres family.I understand that way back historically there were three Torres brothers who married three Cordova sisters.
    Loving all these connections,
    Gloria Cordova

"The Cordova Family was deeply religious. As a testament to their faith, Jesus Maria Cordova & Maria Maneulita Martinez Cordova built a chapel in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in 1878. The flat-roofed chapel was renovated in the early 1900s with the addition of a pitched roof and wooden floor. On Januar 17, 1915, when Arturo was 8 years old, he witnessed the burial of his Uncle Jose Rafael beneath the floorboards, the last interment beneath the floor of the chapel. By this time the undergroud space was filled solidly with corpses side by side in their semi-decayed coffins."
---Torres, p. 117. Cited from Arthur Cordova's book: "Cordoba, Jesus Ma., age 44 in the statistic of the 1870 census. At the age of 29, he served in the army at Taos, NM (actually the NM Volunteers Calvalry. See related story on page 57 this [Torres] book. His horse was valued at $50, a lot of money in those days. Later Martin dropped the Serrano and added the Z to Martin, making it MARTINEZ. They are heirs to land grants in northern NM and southern Colorado.
