With sadness and still in disbelief I'm letting the Forum Family know Jon (Double Barrel) died friday night in a car accident near Cokedale. From details at the scene it appeared he swerved in order to miss hitting a deer. He was killed instantly. Pete, my brother Randy and I had met with him prior to the accident. We never got to go fishing. In the short time I knew Jon I can honestly say he was a genuine guy, a good human being, a friend. I will miss him and pray for him and his family. Here is a copy of what appeared in the Pueblo Chieftain today:
Trinidad
A one vehicle crash Saturday evening on Colorado 12 resulted in the death of a motorist 6 miles west of Trinidad.
Jon Joel Simon, 50, of Parker, lost control of his 2004 Nissan truck while traveling west and became airborne after the vehicle ran off the south side of the road and struck a delineator post. The truck came to rest upside down after rolling almost 200 feet down a steep embankment. Simon was pronounced dead at the scene at about 6:30 p.m.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash. They do not believe drugs or alcohol are a factor in the accident. Although Simon's truck was equipped with airbags, the did not deploy during the crash.
