    A 67-year-old Fremont County man is one of the latest victims to die from West Nile Virus, according to state health officials. The man died on September 10th of Encephalitis. The other deaths announced yesterday were an 80-year-old woman from Arapahoe County who was suffering from Encephalitis. She died on September 7th. And, a 71-year-old man from El Paso County who was also suffering from Encephalitis. He died on Sunday. The three deaths announced yesterday bring Colorado's total to 29 for this year. The deaths are among the now 1,560 human cases of West Nile Virus reported in Colorado this year as of yesterday. 79 additional new cases were added to the list yesterday.     Alamosa District Judge O. John Kuenhold sentenced Penny Kay Taylor, 41, of Alamosa, to four years in the Department of Corrections on a felony Methamphetamine possession charge. The sentence is the result of Taylor's 4th felony drug-related charge. Kuenhold told Taylor at the sentencing that she could have been charged as a habitual criminal with 20 years worth of problems with Methamphetamine. Taylor told Kuenhold that she wants to get on with the next few years of her life to get this over with so that she can live a better life. The sentence will run consecutively with a sentence from Montezuma County.

    The search for human remains continues in the Mesita area in Costilla County, however, no remains have been found so far. Richard Paul White, 30, who grew up in Mesita but now resides in Denver, is currently being held in a Denver jail while the investigation continues into three murders that he allegedly committed and three more murders that he has allegedly confessed to. Of the three he has confessed to, white told authorities that he dumped one of the bodies near Mesita and gave authorities a map to locate the body, however, none has been located as of yet. Costilla County Sheriff Roger Benton is considering bringing white to Costilla County so that he can show authorities the gravesite. White was arrested after being accused of shooting Jason Reichardt, 27, to death while attempting to Rob Reichartdt's truck.

    Francisco Flores, District Director of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, will speak to members of the community on guidelines that apply to employees and employers at 7pm tomorrow at the Trinidad State Junior College Sullivan Center, multipurpose room.     Monte Vista Police Sergeant Dwayne Oakes submitted a letter of resignation at the city council meeting last week. Oakes submitted the resignation after he was not allowed to read a letter in front of council stating his objections to Interim City Manager Doug Clark's denial to his request to attend an FBI training in Denver. Oakes said he understands the city's decision, but had to make a career decision after knowing that the city would not let him attend the training.

    The Spanish Peaks Branch of the American Red Cross will hold a patriotic dinner to provide an opportunity for our community to express support to our military troops and their families. The dinner will take place on Friday at 7pm at the National Guard Armory at the Trinidad Fairgrounds. The ROTC will present the color guard and there will be military speakers from recent conflicts.
