Juana Sisneros (Cisneros) Bransford

Juana Sisneros was married to A. B. (Alex) Bransford. She was born in New Mexico about 1855. They are my great-grandparents. Ancestry census shows them living in Trinidad in 1880 with their only child, Juan Bautista. The typed portion of the census has him listed as "George" and it does look like that but my grandfather was an only child and his name was not "George." I'm still working on my genealogy book for my kids and I don't know any of the family members names so I cannot find her in the census records. I am hoping to find their marriage record. Dodi and PAMM you are so good at finding lost relatives... can you help me?

Mary Ann, I have not had any luck in finding the family in the 1900 census which would show about how many years they were married and the name of their son. According to the marriage record Alec Bransford is the only name shown as parent of Juan Bautista Bransford which could mean that Juana Sisneros was deceased at the time of the marriage. The closest that I could find on a Juana Sisneros (living in Colorado) is the following:

Thank you for that information, Dodie. The marriage info is great. Holy Trinity Church has been around a long time.

I don't know if the Juana Maria you found is the one I'm looking for but will hold on to the info until I can either confirm or rule it out. I also found My great-grandfather, Alejandro Bransford in the 1910 Trinidad census. His name was misspelled as "Alengadro Branfordso." His wife is listed as, "Marie." I knew he had married again after his first wife died. I remember my dad telling us but I don't remember the name of his second wife... Marie does not sound familiar... seems like it was Rebecca... I'll see if my sister remembers. I also do not know when his first wife, Juanita, died. I have a copy of a family portrait of my great-grandparents, Alex and Juanita and my grandfather, Juan, when he was a young teen... probably circa 1890.

Just pulled up the 1910 Census that you mentioned (thanks for letting me know the spellings). First, Marie could be Maria. Per 1910 census it shows that Marie/Maria and Alexander have been married 32 years; marriage 1; and that Marie/Maria had one birth and one living. To me it looks like Juanita Sisneros is still alive.

Do you think Maria and Juanita are one and the same? ... Maria Juana/Juanita or Juana Maria?

The census does lead me to believe that Marie/Maria and Juana/Juanita are one and the same. However why isn't Juana Sisneros shown on the 1908 marriage record of Juan B. Bransford/Delicia Trujillo, if she was still living - could it have been overlooked?

I have no idea. Could it be that in those days women did not count for much.

I did find out, from my sister, the name of my great-grandfather's (Alejandro Bransford) second wife. Her name was Rita Bransford. Don't know her maiden name. She is buried in the Denver area at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wheatridge, Colorado. She died in 1937.
