Picture Identification - Tercio

Sirs: Here is the circa 1910 scan of a mining? operation I believe was in your area. The RR cars read Colorado & Wyoming. ANY info would be appreciated. Thank you and Happy Holidays.

It is a very nice photo of Tercio, and one that I haven't seen before. Thanks to John and Dodie for posting the image. :)

Again, "Thank you" for your scan.

I am very familiar with the Colorado & Wyoming wooden "Ingoldsby" type drop bottom gondolas, but there is another taller car in the string. I am curious as to which railroad it belonged. Is it also stenciled for the Colorado & Wyoming or a different railroad?

Al: It's a 2 fold thing, first there's a CO & WY car pulled behind the one with the rectangular marking-making an optical illusion. The rectangular car has 8 vertical uprights along the side with the logo between 4th and 5th ones. It's a rectangle with what appears to be one long name in the middle and a shorter word above AND below in the rectangle and another word below the rectangle, NONE of which I can make out. I can see what you meant by an "illusion".

The car in question is a flat car with stakes and sideboards, and the car's logo may be a modified "Atlantic and Pacific Railroad" stencil, but I'm not real sure either.

I just came across a May 2002 Thesis on "Colorado Supply Store Number 31, Tercio, Colorado", by Tammy G. Cooper. This paper is extremely informative, providing many photos, and drawings pertaining to Tercio.
