Lois Eleanor Palmquist, age 93, passed away February 11, 2004. She was born on February 15, 1910 to Adolphus and Rhoda Mangum in Durham, Texas. She graduated from high school in Lubbock, TX, received her BA degree from Texas Tech in 1935 and her MA from Colorado State College in 1940 (now known as University of Northern Colorado). She was united in marriage to Oscar Harold Palmquist in January of 1941 in Lubbock, TX. She taught chorus, English and music. She was also a choral director.
She was a member of Trinidad Area Retired School Employees Association, First Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, PEO Chapter DE, National Education Association and Colorado Education Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar; her son, Harold "Hap"; six sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Margaret Palmquist of Trinidad; grandchildren, Derek (Jenise) Palmquist of Colorado Springs, Julianne (Dave) Shaver of Trinidad and Kristy (Bobby) Applegate of Provo, UT
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 1 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Gardner officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, February 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinidad Masonic Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Dave Shaver, Jim Mangino, Mike Mangino, Larry Williams, Derek Palmquist and Bill Swenson. Honorary pallbearers are Wallis Miles, her caregivers and friends.
