Andy Martinez Jr, 62, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 3, 2012.
Andy was born Feb. 11, 1949, to Andy Martinez and Della Romero Martinez. He spend his childhood working with his family and riding horses at McCarty Ranch. He graduated in 1967 from Hoehne High School, joined the United States Navy and served his country aboard the USS Mahan from 1968 to 1974 during the Vietnam War.
Following his years in the Navy, Andy returned home and worked in many professions, as he was a jack of all trades. These jobs included 13 years with the Burlington Northern Railroad and then Trinidad School District No. 1 where he retired in 2011.
As a people person and a jokester, Andy enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved music and enjoyed disc jockeying at many taverns and events. His other passions were outdoor activities and, above all, spending time with his grandchildren.
Andy was preceded in death by his sons, Jeremy and Karl; his parents, Andy and Della Martinez; his sister, Tommy Martinez; his brother, Steve Martinez; his mother- and father-in-law, Bobby and Luke Smith; and many other relatives.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; his daughters, Amanda (Edward) Romero, Holly Laughlin (Orlondo Chavez); his grandsons, Andres and Jeremiah Romero; his granddaughters, Jessica and Lana Chavez; his brother, Felix (Donna) Martinez; his sisters, Lou DelMastro, Rose Martinez, Viola Herrera and Margie (Bob) Madrid; and several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Holy Trinity Church. Inurnment will follow at Masonic Cemetery with graveside services conducted by the United States Naval Honor Guard.
