James M. Lake, 87, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Walsenburg.
He was born June 24, 1925, in Argos, Ind., to Orran and Ethyl May (Voreis) Lake.
He graduated from Argos High School in 1943 and served in the United States Navy submarine service during World War II from1943 to 1946.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Ellis on Nov. 24, 1954. He worked as an electrician for Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights, Ill., from 1956 to 1987. Upon retirement, Jim and Shirley moved to Carlsbad, N.M., and later to Cimarron in 1995.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cimarron. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association since 1977. He loved traveling, hiking, photography and creating outdoor adventures.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother, Robert Lake; and his son, John Lake.
He is survived by his children, Leigh Lucht, of Warsaw, Ind.; Mindy Lake of Chicago; and Laura (Brian) Wilson of Wheat Ridge. He is also survived by three grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by his numerous friends and family members. he will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver without a service.
