Joe Malovich, 88, formerly of Raton, passed away Jan. 4, 2012, in San Jose, Calif. He was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Boncarbo, a now defunct coal mine west of Trinidad, to immigrant parents. Joe was the youngest of five children.
He was preceded in death by Wilma, his wife of 62 years, as well as two sisters, Milka Dekleva and Vera Malovich and one brother, Max.
He is survived by daughter Vera Gott and husband Bob, two grandsons, Duane Gott and wife Tracey, and John Gott. He also had the pleasure of meeting his two great-grandsons, Shane and Justin Gott, for the first time when he arrived in California. He is also survived by one sister, Rose Babish of Denver; nephew Joe Dekleva of Trinidad; nieces Josephine Dekleva Federici of Denver, Leilani Hayhurst-Smith Lucille Verga of Denver and several great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Saturday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home Chapel
