With deep sadness we announce that Antonina (Toni) Ortega, loving wife, mother & grandmother, passed into the lovings arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 5, 2012. Although we grieve deeply, our hearts are filled with joy that although she is absent from the body, she is present with the Lord!
Antonina Ortega, 80, entered into eternal rest in Colorado Springs. She was born Jan. 21, 1932, in Valorso to Monico and Silveria Mestas.
Toni married Arthur J. Ortega on March 11, 1950 in Raton, N.M. Toni and Art moved their family to Colorado Springs in 1961 where they resided until returning to Trinidad in 2004.
Toni accepted Jesus Christ as her savior in 1973 and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Among her interests, she loved to travel and attended many church conventions throughout the U.S.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur, brothers Peter and Alex Mestas, and sisters Cecilia Valdez, Tilde Suazo, and Clara Montoya.
Toni is survived by her three children Mae (Eligio) Cepeda, Neil Ortega and Mona (Reggie) Pantoya; grandchildren Leah & Solomon, Orlando & Joseph, and Jessi and Jonathan; and six great-grandchildren all of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by brothers Leonard Mestas and his wife Viola of Denver, Ben Mestas and his wife Mary of Trinidad; and Orlando Mestas of Williamsburg, sisters Helen Lopez and her husband Abel of Florence, and Bea Baca and her husband Tim of Williamsburg.
Carrying her to rest will be Pallbearers Orlando Ortega, Joseph Ortega, Solomon Cepeda, Carlos Trujillo, Nathan Trujillo, and Amos Montoya.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. While we look not at the things which are seen; but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Cor. 4:16,18
We love you mother and will miss you so much, but know we will see you again real soon!
Visitation was Thursday, Aug.9, 2012, . at Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home, 335 E. Main St., Trinidad. Celebration of Life will follow at 7 p.m. at Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home. Chapel service will be Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Starkville Cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home with the arrangements.
