Alamosa County is offering free scrap metal collection at the old landfill site on road 8 south about 5 miles west of U.S. 285. The collection will take place through December 4th and is being offered on a trial basis. Residents may take old appliances and metal objects to the site to be compacted. There is no charge for the service; however, county commissioners are asking that those who use the service donate nonperishable food items for the emergency food bank. Elderly people and those who cannot deliver their own scrap may call 589-3841 for assistance. Alamosa county sheriff Dave Stong has volunteered prisoners to help with the project.
