Nora Hawks Cordova, 92, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Trinidad State Nursing Home. She was born on April 21, 1910 in Jansen, Colorado, the granddaughter of early settler Miguel Pacheco. Her mother was Rumalda (Pacheco) Pond. Her adoptive parents were Lee and Sally Pacheco Hawks.

She married Paul J. Cordova Sr. on October 15, 1927 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad and remained a member of that parish until her death. She was married for 58 years until the death of her husband on October 17, 1985.

Nora was a loving wife and dedicated mother whose great enjoyment in life was following the activities, careers and accomplishments of her children and extended family. Among the personal activities she enjoyed were volunteering at the Senior Citizens Center and her club memberships to the La Bonita Social Club, a 50-year member, and the Seven Stitches Club. She fondly remembered her early years as a Cub Scout Den Mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her adoptive parents, her husband Paul, her son Edward, brother James and great granddaughter, Megan Nemer.

She is survived by her sons Paul J. (Roberta) Cordova Jr., Trinidad, Robert L. (JoAnn) Cordova, Mandan, N. D., and Richard J. (Yvonne) Cordova, Trinidad; daughters Martha Belle (Joseph) Escobedo, Trinidad and Cheyenne, Wyo., Eleanor R. Cordova (Dr. J. David) O'Dea, Dunedin, Fla., and Dr. Theresa L. (Miguel Acosta) Cordova, Albuquerque, N.M.; sister Gertrude Gonzales, Trinidad, 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 12, 2002 from 2 - 6 p.m. at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home. The Rosary will be Thursday, June 13, 2002 at 9 a.m. at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home followed by Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church with Father Robert Hagan S.J. officiating. Interment will follow at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are her many friends and relatives.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinidad Catholic Schools.
