    new to the website

Ran across this website by accident, and pleased that you let me join you'll. Have enjoyed reading the comments and many memories have come back to me. Raised in Starkville graduated from THS in 1948. In 1949 enlisted the Airborne, of course, the recruiter never told me that once the plane took off you weren't allowed to land in it, strangely, I had all the training I needed, riding the schoolbus from Starkville to the HS qualified me. Getting off the bus could cause more damage than jumping from a plane. Enjoyed my time in the Airborne, but wanted to see world, so jioned the Navy, and luckily, was assigned to a tin can in the North Atlantic, so cruised to Europe, Med. and many other places that I had heard WW2 vets mention. On separation from the service me and family made Dixie Land our home.

Dad passed away in 1956, family members in Sopris and area moved out. So I've seen very little of the old home town. So reading these postings have enlighted me very much.

Wonder how many members of the class of 1948 are still around? Oh, neighbors in Starkville of the 1930's and 40's.

Question - that large catfish that those two young men are holding has made some fisherman envious out here, they want to know what website you ordered the lake from????????(ha ha). The best to all Ernie Abeyta.

Redneck, welcome. I wasn't born or raised in Trinidad, but I have acquired a very fond interest in the railroad history of the area and in doing so I have acquired quite a few photos. Most were taken in 1992, 1998 and 2002 during my visits to the area. Here is one taken in Starkville of a very interesting stone building, a remnant of the mining era, which I'm sure will be standing long after I'm gone or, at least I hope it can survive. I was also in the Navy for a while. Thank you for serving.

I hope the photo brings back a memory or two.
