DB, that really is a nice picture, thanks. If I can remember, didn't you attend the fest last year and had a good time?

Yes, Dodie. I fished at North Lake in the morning and attended the Stonewall fest in the afternoon. It was a beautiful day - temps in the 70's. I hope the weather holds out for another one like last year. It was a good time.

That sounds like a great weekend to go visit my Mom, go to the festival, and get some firewood to bring back to Texas. It's outrageous here for a cord of wood -$260! OUCH!!!!!

TexasTornado, I thought they had mesquite in Texas. Out here the mesquite trees grow pretty big and hard wood. I love to grill over mesquite gives stuff a good taste. When we lived on the East Coast fire would cost about that but it was hard wood like oak and maple. I got a load of firewood out there and it was red oak, broke my heart to burn it but it sure burned hot like coal. Speaking of which when we were in Trinidad we would get a gire going in the fireplace and throw a milk carton full of coal in there to really get things warmed up.

I remember that lodge being in terrible shape until they fixed it up in the early 80's.

    DB, Nice picture.

    DB & All,

I have a couple pictures of the Kendall Community House at Monument Lake which looks similar to your picture. Are they the same building? The Kendall Community House was built in 1936.

There is the caretakers house...if you post that it might help us figure it out. I think that they are one and the same right off though.

    TexasTornado,

Let me know if you do show up. I have all the firewood you can haul for FREE. It's already cut in 16 inch lengths and seasoned for one year. All you gotta do is load it.

TT I have a bunch too just from trees we cut down. Couldn't have campfires most places this summer around here so my usual cut and burn didn't work. Even sold here you can get a pickup full for like 10 bucks at the lumberyard. Cut and split!

These are from the 1937 Kit Carson Round Up Souvenir booklet, and are probably Aultman photos again, but I have no way of knowing.

The photo's caption states that it is the Kendall Community House erected in 1936.

The buffalo are for Dodie, or missing, I don't remember exactly who wanted to see them a while back.
    :)

Here are a couple of postcard images.

"Kendall Community House and Miramonte Dining Room -
These buildings are for the comfort of the public at
Monument Lake, the Mountain playground for Trinidad
and neighboring communities at an elevation of 8,500 ft.,
amid timber and hills, reflecting the snow capped peaks
of the Sangre de Cristo Range, this spot is ideal for
    mountain recreation."

A late 30's postcard image of the Kendall House and Moramonte Dining Room.
