Jack A. Summers, 69, of Stuart, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, in Tulsa.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Leonard Higgins and the Rev. Jerry Burnside officiating. Burial will be at Bohannon Cemetery, south of Stuart. Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born April 23, 1940, in Coweta, he was the son of A.V. and Mary Catherine (Whitaker) Summers. He graduated from Coweta High School with the Class of 1958, and later graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College.
He married Patricia Medina of Trinidad on Dec. 18, 1959, in Albuquerque, N.M. They renewed their vows Dec. 18, 2009, at St. John the Evangelist Church in McAlester on their 50th wedding anniversary.
He retired as a gunner's mate technician chief in the United States Navy in 1981 at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Detachment in McAlester after serving for 24 years. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 1098, Fleet Reserve Association, the American Legion, and the U.S. Navy Nuclear Weapons Association. He enjoyed raising cattle, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Assembly of God faith.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Summers, of the home; sons, Jim Summers, of Stuart, and Tim Summers, of Stuart; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Horrocks, Las Vegas. Also, grandchildren, James Summers, Ogdensburg, N.Y., John Summers, of Wilburton, Jack Summers, of Stuart, and Rebecca Summers, of Wilburton; sisters, Nadine Baldwin, Riverton, Wyo., Geneva Boley and husband, Wendell, Las Vegas, Donna Watkins, of Haskell, and Kathy Herrington, of Stigler. And, brother-in-law, James Medina, Lake Village, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Priscilla Kelly, Mesa, Ariz., and Bernadette Hemeyer, of McAlester, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.V. and Mary Catherine Summers.
Pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, John Nelson, Lynn Barlow, Ray Gorbet, Joe Sheets and Jerry Valenta.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sid Hart, Neil Ramsey, Ken Campbell, David Watkins and Gene Clifft.
