Helen A. Stakich, longtime Aguilar resident, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 10, 2010, at the Pueblo Care Center, with her loving caregivers by her side.

She was born in Aguilar Oct. 9, 1913, to Marie (Sustek) and Michael Blahut.

She was bookkeeper for the Blahut family diary and later, together with her brother Frank, Helen took over the Blahut Ranch. She also worked at the Aguilar Drug Store, and for many years was a volunteer Fire Maid for the Spanish Peaks Fire Department. She also spent many years being a banker and chauffeur for the Senior Citizens. Helen loved going to Cripple Creek and never missed playing the lottery. She was very accomplished at ceramics, Pokino and Bingo. Her room at the nursing home was filled with the stuffed animals that she had won.

Preceding her in death are parents, Marie and Michael Blahut; husband, George Stakich; sister, Mary Tokar; brothers, Bob, Adolf and Frank Blahut.

Survivors are nieces and nephews, Helen (Ed) Weber, Loveland, ; Sandy (Doug) Shultz, Fresno, Calif.; Terri Blahut, Visalia, Calif., Frank (Marie) Tokar; Erie; George (Dorothy) Tokar, Aguilar, Robert (Patty) Tokar, San Jacinto, Calif.; Bill (Arlene) Tokar, Powell, Wyo.; Jim Tokar, Aguilar; 30 great and great great nieces and nephews and many friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19 at Comi Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Cary Nelson officiating.

Private inurnment to be held at a later date.

Honorary escorts are her many nieces nephews and friends that knew her as Aunt Helen.
