Betty June “BJ” Key, age 80 of Stonewall, passed away on March 9, 2010, in Trinidad, CO. She was born in Rocky, Oklahoma on May 28, 1929, one of six children.
She lived until 1966 in Oklahoma and then spent over the last forty years in Colorado with her husband Warren “Red” Key. She was a devoted wife and mother of two children. Betty was also a long standing member of Stonewall Community Church and led her husband and children to Christ. She was active in the women’s bible study and worked at the Trinidad State Junior College bookstore. She displayed her patriotism by volunteering for the Republican Party. Betty donated her time and talent to crocheting infant booties for mothers in need at the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Euless, Texas.
Betty will be remembered by her beauty, elegance and dedication. She was a loving wife full of support and commitment to her husband of 57 years. She was a devoted mother who cared for her children with benevolence and loving kindness. She was a wonderful Granny BJ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Red, Stonewall; parents, Ellis and Clara Clanahan; brother, Joe; and sisters, Arletha and Fonsene.
Survivors include daughter Sandi (Dan) Clarkson, Bedford, Tex.; son Scott (Susanna) Key, Highlands Ranch; brothers Glen (Jacque) Clanahan and Gene Clanahan; sister-in-law Mildred Clanahan; five granddaughters; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A private memorial service will be held at Stonewall Community Church and Stonewall Cemetery to be laid to rest beside her husband Red.
The family of Betty June “BJ” Key entrusted the arrangements to Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home.
